In the ever-evolving world of modern luxury interior design, the key to creating truly captivating spaces lies in the marriage of sophisticated aesthetics and cutting-edge technology. Central to this process is the art of 3D rendering, which allows designers to visualize projects in detail before construction begins. From LED lighting design to innovative wall lighting design techniques, the importance of precise lighting cannot be overstated in bringing these spaces to life. As professionals sharpen their skills through lighting design courses, the ability to blend functionality with beauty continues to push the boundaries of luxury interiors.
In this blog, we’re excited to have a conversation with Henry Paulo Alvarez, the Architect/Designer at Casia Robinson LTD. With over 2 years of experience in interior design, 3D modeling, and rendering/visualization, Henry has been at the forefront of design rendering that can be seen in our website under projects tab. We dive deep into his journey, insights on AI as a tool in designing, and what the future holds.
Q1: Can you tell us about your journey in the company?
I currently work as an Architect/Designer focusing on interior design, 3D modeling, and rendering/visualization. I have been working at Casia Robinson for almost 2 years. My main task is 3D visualization for all projects.
Q2: What are the applications/tools/medium you are using in rendering the designs? And why do you like using it?
I prefer using Lumion and D5 Render because they are intuitive, fast and can produce great results in a short amount of time compared to other render engines and workflows. I have tried multiple workflows and engines but the one that works the most in correlation with our clients and designers is using SketchUp as the main 3D modeling software and Lumion or D5 Render as the render engine. We have already established the dynamic of the workflow from concept to 3D to visualization and it has served us great throughout our projects. Maybe we can explore more advanced and technical work flows in the future but for now our pipeline is more than sufficient for us.
Q3: Are you using AI in rendering designs?
Yes, I do. The AI tools that I’m currently using are ImgUpscaler for improving low res materials, Leonardo AI for image generation like logo mockups, graphic mockups and texture generation.Lastly, I use Krea AI for post processing but I only use it whenever there’s a need for further details like people, food and etc.
Q4: How do AI tools impact your job?
Using AI in Visualization benefits the overall quality of the outcome. It can help with generating concepts and ideas, enhancing materials and textures and even enhance the final image created but we need to be careful in using AI to prevent it from overpowering the work done. AI is great as a tool in enhancement but for now it’s very far from beating the traditional way of visualization because it cannot faithfully recreate the vision of the designer yet.
Q5: Do you think AI tools can replace designers like you? Or does it have any negative impact on your job?
AI cannot replace the artistic touch of a human designer. Anyone can use AI but not everybody has the knowledge about the intricacies of space planning and design. I see AI as an ally rather than an enemy. I can use AI as a tool to further enhance my work and save time in creating useful materials that I can use in my projects. AI can only replicate or modify other people’s work and it is our job as designers to come up with unique solutions to unique problems. It is our duty as designers to step up and keep up with the times by using AI as a part of our work, rather than seeing it as an enemy.
In Summary
The integration of AI in interior design enhances the creative process, empowering designers rather than replacing them. As Henry Paulo Alvarez highlights, AI serves as a powerful tool that complements traditional design methods, streamlining workflows, and elevating the quality of final renderings. While AI brings innovation and efficiency, the unique artistic vision and problem-solving skills of human designers remain irreplaceable. As the industry continues to evolve, embracing AI will empower designers to push the boundaries of what’s possible, creating spaces that are not only functional but also uniquely beautiful.
